More about polycarbonate panels for the veranda
When looking for a veranda, you will soon come across the choice of glass or polycarbonate panels for the veranda. Both types of roof panels have unique characteristics, which we talk more about in the article 'Glass or polycarbonate as a roof type? 'The differences'. In this article, we elaborate on the features, benefits and possibilities with polycarbonate.
The advantages of a polycarbonate veranda
Polycarbonate roof panels have a solid honeycomb structure, they are lightweight panels compared to glass roof panels. But there are other benefits, namely:
Weight: polycarbonate panels are significantly lighter than glass, making them easy to handle
Strength and impact resistance: the material is highly impact-resistant and almost unbreakable thanks to its honeycomb structure. The Gumax® verandas also have an additional strip of spring steel in the gutter, providing extra strength.
Insulation: polycarbonate has good insulating properties, which helps to regulate the temperature under the veranda. In combination with sun shading, it stays more pleasant under the veranda on hot days.
Cost: in general, a veranda with polycarbonate sheets is cheaper to buy than glass. Configure your veranda and filter by roof type for an indication of price.
Light transmission: at 54%, the opal polycarbonate panels allow plenty of light to pass through, while keeping you unaffected by the sun's bright rays.

Keeping the roof panels clean
An aluminium veranda with polycarbonate panels requires minimal maintenance. But, a little maintenance every now and then will ensure that you enjoy a clean veranda to the fullest and extend its lifespan. Here are the steps for keeping the veranda clean:
- Keep safety in mind when entering the roof. Distribute the weight across several beams and use a plate or plank to stand on. Preferably lay rubber mats under the plate or planks to avoid damaging the roof.
- Allow a maximum of one person to enter the roof at a time.
- Wrap a cloth at the top of the ladder to prevent damage to the roof. You then enter the roof via the ladder.
- Remove loose dirt from the roof panels with a soft broom.
- Clean the polycarbonate roof panels with water and soapy water.
- Then rinse the roof well with water.
- Wipe the veranda panels with a soft cloth.
