Although an aluminium veranda requires minimal maintenance, a little servicing is desirable every now and then. Not only does your veranda look like new again after cleaning, it also extends its lifespan. We give you some tips to get your veranda shiny clean again.

1. Cleaning aluminium

Start by spraying the aluminium clean. You can easily do this with a garden hose. Has the initial sand and dust been washed away? You can then continue cleaning the aluminium parts with a soft cloth or sponge and a soak of lukewarm water and a non-degreasing soap. Once the stubborn dirt is also removed, rinse again with water.

Tip: All aluminium profiles of Gumax® verandas are powder coated. It is therefore important that you choose a PH-neutral soap and do not use harsh materials or abrasives, so as not to damage the paint layer. Also, do not use a pressure washer to clean your veranda; the high force with which water is sprayed onto your veranda can cause damage to the top layer of the plastic. Still discover a scratch in the aluminium? You can use a paint pen or spray can to neatly hide damages.

2. A clean roof

Safety comes first when cleaning the roof.

The roof of the veranda is not intended for walking or standing on. Nevertheless, if you do enter the roof, keep the following in mind. At all times, make sure you distribute the weight across several beams by using a plate or plank to stand on. You can put rubber mats under the boards to prevent damage to the roof. Importantly, a maximum of one person at a time should enter the roof to clean it. Of course, you can also use a ladder that you place against the veranda. To prevent damage to your veranda, wrap a cloth around the top of the ladder. Next, first remove any loose dirt from the roof panels with a soft broom. Then follow the steps appropriate to the roof type:

Glass roof: Rinse the glass plates well with water. Next, clean the roof with a soapy water and then go over the glass panels with a chamois and an extendable window wiper.

Polycarbonate roof: Clean the polycarbonate roof panels with water and soapy water. Then rinse the roof well with water and wipe the panels down with a soft cloth to avoid scratches.

3. A tidy gutter

Especially in the autumn and winter months, an extra cleaning of the gutter can't hurt. Put on a pair of work gloves and remove fallen leaves and branches from the gutter. This prevents blockages and keeps water draining properly through the support structure.

4. Cleaning glass sliding doors

Do you have glass sliding doors in your veranda? Then you can clean the glass panels in the same way as the windows of your house. Don't forget to include the bottom guide of the rail system when cleaning. This ensures that your glass panels can continue to slide effortlessly. You can easily wash away the dirt with some water.

When cleaning your veranda, always remember that your safety comes first. Also, choose the right materials and cleaning agents to avoid damaging the material. Do you have any questions? If so, always get in touch for the right advice.
