Frequently asked questions about Gumax® automatic sun shading
Choice Gumax® sun shading
The system is available in the standard Gumax® colours RAL 9016, RAL 7016 and RAL 9005. Due to its reflective nature, the sun shading screen is only available in a light grey shade.
No, Tuinmaximaal does not do this. If you have the right measurements, we can advise you on this.
The Gumax® sun shading provides 89% reflection of directly radiated solar energy and 73% of radiated visible sunlight. How much temperature difference this produces is largely dependent on the situation.
Yes, this is possible.
A Gumax® sun shading motor consumes a maximum of 62 watts per hour when operated continuously. So a veranda with 5 strips of Gumax® sun shading with 5 motors consumes 62*5=310 watts per hour. This is with continuous running of the motors, which will not occur in practice.
The Gumax® sun shading provides 89% reflection of directly radiated solar energy and 73% of radiated visible sunlight.
The sun shading screen is designed to reflect more light and heat radiation than regular sun shading screens. What the wind chill will be depends on a variety of environmental factors such as whether a veranda is enclosed, the size of the veranda, the angle of light incidence, etc. Therefore, the effect cannot be specified concretely. See more explanations and an indication of the effect on this page.
No, there will always be some slack in the system and each motor is controlled separately, so not all lanes will always be exactly the same. However, this difference is minimal.
Depending on the situation, Gumax® sun shading produces less than 55dB (A).
The screen is made of plastic threads (polyethylene terephthalate, better known as PET) through which reflective aluminium threads are woven. The reflective aluminium threads are mainly incorporated at the top for better reflection of light and heat radiation.
Due to the properties of the Gumax® sun shading screen, it is not available in other colours.

Assembly sun shading
To pair the Gumax automatic sun shading with a smart home system, both need to operate on the same frequency. In addition, a corresponding protocol is required. The protocol of the Gumax automatic sun shading is closed source and therefore cannot be linked to a smart home system.
A complete 2.5m Gumax® sun shading package weighs approximately 9.5kg. A 3m package weighs about 10.4kg. A 3.5m package weighs about 11.3kg and a 4m package weighs about 12kg.
Yes. Gumax® sun shading fits under any standard Gumax® roof material.
The sun shading can be fitted under any standard, non-shortened Gumax® veranda. In addition, Gumax® sun shading fits into a compartment with the dimensions:
- 1. Height (under roof panels): Minimum 88mm
- 2. Width (between the beams): 936 - 950mm
- 3. Length (between wall profile and gutter):
- Available in length 2500mm 2463 - 2502mm
- Available in length 3000mm 2963 -3002mm
- Available in length 3500mm 3463 - 3502mm
- Available in length 4000mm 3963 - 4002mm
No. The sun shading can be connected to the left or right side of your veranda.
Depending on the situation, about 40 minutes of installation time per strip.

Yes. Gumax® sun shading is easy to assemble by a DIYer using the assembly instructions and instruction video.
Try extending the sun shading again. If this does not help, charge the remote control and try again.
This is the motor's antenna, you should leave it in place and not remove it!
This can happen when the screen was not previously stretched properly. In this case, the screen should be re-tensioned. You can do this by removing the screen housing and using the screen tensioning clips to re-tension the screen, see the assembly instructions.
The maximum number of individually controllable strips is 16.
No, this is not possible. A remote control is linked with a unique code per strip of sun shading.
The screen should be stretched so tightly that no folds are visible in the screen. This is also described in the assembly instructions. The screen should only be stretched by hand; this does not require much strength. A screen that is too tightly stretched may have an adverse effect on the life of the product.
In principle, no. In the unlikely event that the sun shading does not respond to the remote control after a long time, assuming it is charged, re-pair the remote control with the motor by following the steps in the manual.
The smart motor causes the system to stop about 5 millimetres at the front and back so that the transporter does not run into the profiles. There is some slack in this 5-millimetre distance.
It is possible that not all motors have received the remote control signal. Try it again. It could also be that the remote control is low on power, recharge it.
This is possible, but we recommend always attaching the motor and screen housing to the wall side of the veranda. This looks neater and is easier to assemble. Tuinmaximaal's fitters will always attach Gumax® sun shading and the screen housing to the wall side (highest side of veranda). Should you decide to reverse the system, bear in mind that the assembly instructions will always assume mounting the motor on the wall side (highest side of veranda). Incidentally, Gumax® does offer a warranty on the system if it is not installed according to the assembly instructions.
The side that reflects the most will be at the top. Which side this is and how to recognise it is clearly described in the assembly instructions.
No, the assembly will be the same. However, because there are additional reinforcement columns in the Gumax® veranda, screwing in the guide rail attachment may require a little more force.
Usage and maintenance van Gumax® sun shading
In case of stains, an attempt can be made to remove them with a slightly damp cloth without cleaning agents or solvents. Furthermore, the sun shading can be wiped with a feather duster if they get dusty. The top of the Gumax® sun shading can also be wiped with a feather duster if necessary. Open the sun shading and stop them about halfway. Unplug the sun shading so that the electrical voltage is disconnected. Carefully pull the entire sun shading out of the cover. Then gently go through each slat with the feather duster to clean the screen at the top.
Moisture is not harmful to the screen. To prevent mould formation on the screen, Gumax® recommends opening the Gumax® sun shading at least once a month to allow any condensed moisture to evaporate. Leave the extended sun shading open for at least 10 minutes so that any accumulated moisture has a chance to evaporate.
Yes, unless the temperature under the veranda right by the motor is below -20 degrees Celsius.
No, there is no app available.
No. In fact, this is discouraged. The moving parts of Gumax® sun shading are self-lubricating. Lubricating moving parts can have an adverse effect.
We advise against this. Damage and stains attributable to open fire and extreme temperature are not covered by the warranty.
The Gumax® sun shading remote control can operate 16 strips individually. Multiple strips can be linked on one channel; in that case, more that 16 strips can be controlled. Several strips will then always move at the same time, though.
As usual, only the area above the screen housing is no longer cleanable.
No, if, for example, condensation drops on the screen, this will not cause any harm. Make sure the sun shading screen is dry when it is retracted again.
The screen itself will not mould as this fabric consists of polyethylene terephthalate yarn, combined with aluminium yarn. Nevertheless, always ensure that the Gumax® sun shading screen is always retracted dry. However, it is possible that mould on the dirt that accumulates in the screen can develop. Accumulated dirt is best prevented by following the maintenance instructions in the manual.
The screen may discolour under the influence of various factors. For example, smoke under a veranda can eventually cause discolouration of the screen (just as it does to walls indoors).
The aluminium parts of the sun shading are of the same quality as the Gumax® verandas and should be maintained in the same way.
You can clean the screen with lukewarm soapy water. Take care not to retract the screen when it is still damp. When cleaning, leave the screen in the veranda. See also the maintenance instructions for Gumax® sun shading, which can be found on our download page.
There are no loose batteries in the remote control. It features a built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery, which can be charged with the included mini-USB charger.
For winds above wind force 10 (heavy storms with winds from 89km/h), retract the sun shading.
Warranty sun shading
Gumax® sun shading are covered by a 5-year manufacturer's warranty if installed according to the installation instructions. This is with the exception of the moving parts, which have a 2-year warranty.
There is a five-year warranty on Gumax® sun shading and a two-year warranty on the moving parts. The warranty covers proper functioning of the system during these 5 years. The sun shading screen itself may discolour or be damaged by improper use (e.g. barbecuing under the veranda etc.). This is not covered by the warranty. The expected service life of Gumax® sun shading is around 20 years if properly maintained. See the maintenance instructions for Gumax® sun shading on our download page.
This depends on the warranty conditions of the supplier of this veranda, which you should check yourself before installing Gumax® sun shading. For the Gumax® sun shading: There is a five-year warranty on Gumax® sun shading and a two-year warranty on the moving parts.
Service sun shading
Order a new remote control from your supplier if it has broken out of warranty. When the sun shading is stored in the screen housing and the remote control is not paired, do the following:
- Carefully pull the transporter forward about 20 cm.
- You can now remove the screen housing completely by sliding the two clips inwards.
- After this, you can reach the button on the motor to re-pair the remote control.
- Now go through the steps from the installation manual to reset the sun shading.
To do this, follow the Gumax® sun shading step-by-step plan on our download page. It can be viewed here.
