Do you have a small veranda? Then furnishing the space can be quite a challenge. Yet you can go a long way with a limited number of square metres. With these styling tips, make the most of the space under your veranda!

Go vertical

When space under your veranda is limited, you need to make smart choices. One way to do that is by going vertical. For example, don't put your plants in pots on the ground, but hang them on the wall. That also makes your atmospheric greenery more visible. Avoid creating a colourful carnival under your veranda; instead, choose one eye-catcher to decorate the space. Want to heat your terrace? Then opt for a heater that you can attach to the wall, instead of a heater you place on the floor. That way, you don't lose precious floor space.

The right lighting

You can go vertical when it comes to lighting as well. It's a shame to lose part of your terrace to a floor lamp. Instead, opt for wall lights or dimmable LED lights built into your veranda. This makes it easy to switch between functional and atmospheric lighting. Concealed lighting is also ideal when you have a small terrace. For example, attach a LED strip under your garden furniture for a nice glow of light on your floor and you instantly create a cosy living room feeling.

Keep it light

Calm, light colours form the basis of a spacious-looking terrace. This is because these colours reflect more light, making the space appear optically larger. So use colours like white, light blue, light grey and various pastel shades to decorate your terrace. Reflective materials and transparent objects also do well in a small space. Want to add some colour? Then keep the base calm and add colour accents with accessories.

Make use of multifunctional furniture

A storage box that you can also use as a side table, furniture on wheels, a hammock that you attach temporarily under your veranda: there are countless ways to cleverly furnish your veranda. A lounge set with built-in storage is also ideal under your veranda. No one notices that your outdoor cushions, parasol and all of your outdoor tableware are hidden under your garden furniture! On your small terrace, place compact garden chairs with narrow armrests and a table with an extendable top. This way, you can easily extend your table when you have guests over.

Create depth

A small surface has little depth. However, that does not mean that you cannot create depth. A simple trick for this is to hang a mirror in the direction of the open space. You also create more optical depth by working with different layers. For example, place cushions on your garden furniture in a contrasting colour or in a striking pattern. With an outdoor carpet in a different texture to your floor, you create the same effect. Do you not have outdoor furniture for your terrace yet? Then look for a lounge sofa on legs. As a result, you see more of your floor and your living space appears larger.
