Surprise your guests with an atmospheric winter BBQ at home. A winter BBQ is all about the most delicious meat and a unique atmosphere. With garden torches, candles on the table, and toasting together with a hot beverage, you can organise a special winter evening.

The short winter days make for special evenings. It gets dark early, so make it cosy with candles on the table, lanterns or coloured hanging lights. Dimmable lighting adds extra atmosphere.

The perfect place for your guests during a winter evening

For even more ambiance, place fire pits or bowls. A thick layer of snow in your garden creates the most wonderful atmosphere. Of course, you want your guests to be well sheltered during a winter evening. Do you have a veranda? Then you will have the perfect place for you and your guests in all seasons.

Pillows and warming blankets

Inform your guests in advance that it will be a bit colder, so they can put on a warm jumper and possibly a scarf or hat. Provide pillows and warming blankets yourself. And limit outdoor cooking to cooking on the barbecue itself.

Safe distance

Never place your barbecue under your veranda! Find a stable spot at a safe distance from the veranda. You simply keep an eye on it from under your veranda. And you can warm up there whenever you want.

Keep the heat in your barbecue

In low winter outdoor temperatures, the barbecue has to work just a little harder. So keep the lid of your barbecue closed as much as possible. This is the best way to retain heat. Place your barbecue out of the wind, as cold air causes the meat to cook less quickly.

Let the meat get to the right temperature

Let the meat get to room temperature before putting it on the barbecue. Meat that you put on the barbecue straight from the fridge loses flavour, and you also risk it becoming chewy.

Hamburger, grill sausage and satay are ideal

Thinner cuts of meat require less cooking time. In winter, it all takes a lot longer, so precooked meat is the ideal solution. Hamburger, grill sausage and satay are ideal. Make sure you have enough fuel for your barbecue. And finish your dishes with seasonal vegetables such as leeks, parsnips, Brussels sprouts and carrots. Make salads with them or grill them on the barbecue.

The best way to top off a winter BBQ is with marshmallows melted over the fire. Also delicious in hot chocolate with whipped cream!
