Planning to enhance your veranda with a glass sliding door? Everything then starts with measuring the space. In this article, we explain what you should take into account for this.
1. To measure is to know: the width
If you are going to measure a glass sliding door, start by measuring the width of the opening you want to close. Do you have a Gumax® veranda in a standard size and do you want to expand it with a glass sliding door? You can then use the standard dimensions of the Gumax® glass sliding door. This way, you get as little overlap between the glass panels as possible. Don't want to use the full length of a rail? You can easily shorten the rail systems. Here, the length the you shorten, divided by the number of panels minus one, is the overlap per panel. Here are some examples:
Question: I want to close off a 3710mm space with a glass sliding door, which rail system do I choose?
Answer: In this case, choose a 3920mm 4-rail system. When shortening a 4-rail system by 210mm, the overlap per panel is 210:3 = 70mm.
Question: I want to close a 5660mm opening with a glass sliding door, which rail system do I choose?
Answer: To close off a 5660mm space, choose a 5880mm 6-rail system. This shortens the rail system by 220mm. This means that the overlap per panel is 220:5 = 44mm.
Question: The space I want to close off is larger than the widest rail system of 5880mm. What are my options?
Answer: You have two options for closing off the space:
1. Reduce the opening to a maximum of 5880mm by closing part of the opening with a fixed wall;
2. Divide the opening in two with an extra support structure, so you can place two separate systems.
2. Go vertical
The clearance height is the height from the top of the foundation/paving to the flat underside of the gutter/beam of the veranda. Based on the measured clearance height, you can easily order the right height via our webshop. Within the system, you do not have to take any size into account. As standard, the glass height you receive is 100mm shorter than the system height you order. For example, if you measure a clearance height of 2192mm, you order the clearance height size between 2180mm and 2220mm through our webshop.
Question: The height measured between the top of the foundation column to the bottom of the gutter is 2095mm. What height glass sliding door do I choose?
Answer: In this case, choose a clearance height of 2080mm to 2120mm.
3. The right depth
Want to install a glass sliding door along the depth of your veranda? If you have a Gumax® veranda, keep the following situation in mind:
Question: I want to close my Gumax® veranda with a depth of 3 metres. Which rail system do I choose?
Answer: For a veranda with a depth of both 3 and 4 metres, the rail system does not exactly match the depth. In this case, you can opt for a 2940mm 3-rail system, filling the space with an extra support structure against the wall. At a depth of 4 metres, you choose a 4-rail system with an extra support structure in this case. By doing so, you fill up an additional 110mm. You can also choose to install a 4-rail system at a depth of 3 metres. At a depth of 4 metres, you choose a 5-rail system in this case. Keep in mind here that there will be more overlap between the glass panels.
