Outdoor lighting is both functional and atmospheric, which makes it an important part of your garden. “Make use of inconspicuous lighting” advises Jeroen Soontiëns, owner of Soontiëns Hoveniers & Tuincentrum. “Mood lighting is best when you can't see where it's coming from.”
Create a lighting plan
Before buying outdoor lighting, it is useful to make a lighting plan. In this plan, you specify where you want to place garden lighting, among other things. That way, you immediately know how many and where you need power connections.
Next, think about the purpose of the lighting. After all, you have the choice of functional and/or atmospheric lighting. Finally, you determine the type of lighting and can choose the luminaires.
Atmospheric lighting for your garden
Lighting that provides atmosphere is almost indispensable in any garden. You can choose from different types of lighting. For example, you can use path lighting to light the way in your garden. Ground spots, which illuminate a beautiful shrub or tree, also create an atmospheric garden. “The trick is to apply the right amount of light. That way, you create an atmospheric garden and it doesn't become a carnival of different lights,” Jeroen says.
Are you connecting the atmospheric lighting yourself? Then it is recommended to use a low-voltage system. You do not need any knowledge or skill in electrical installations for this connection. You easily plug your lights into the socket. Then expand it with all kinds of lighting via extension cables. You can also easily install a dimmer or remote control.
Also provide functional garden lighting
Functional lighting is very important in the garden. Think, for example, of lights near the door, garage or steps. It can also be useful to have good lighting under your veranda. This allows you to enjoy the outdoors until late in the evening.
Wall lighting is an example of functional lighting. These lights are connected to a 230V network. For safety, it is recommended to have the lighting professionally connected by a skilled installer. This way, the electricity cables can be nicely concealed so they are not in plain sight.
